African American Rhythms

When: Sun., Feb. 24, 1 p.m. 2008

Based on the idea that immersion into the realms of art and music can teach at-risk kids important lessons in responsibility and self-confidence, Bay Area Youth Arts offers classes in African and jazz percussion, violin, Afro-Brazilian drumming and capoeira. Performers from the program join spoken-word artists from the UpSurge Jazz Poetry Ensemble and drummers and storytellers from Children's Cultural Connection for a three-hour family-oriented African American Rhythms celebration at the Oakland Museum of California (1000 Oak St., Oakland) on Sunday, Feb. 24. 1 p.m. MuseumCa.org
