Rock & Pop

When: Mon., July 16, 9 p.m. 2012

If you like Ken Andrews/Failure, Torche, Quicksand, Sparta, et al, ÆGES should be your new favorite band. With its sludgy riffs, pop hooks, and distortion-heavy, wall-of-sound production, the Los Angeles band synthesizes a distinct post-hardcore/alt-rock/sludge metal aesthetic into something cohesive, genuine, and compelling. The band -- singer/guitarist Kemble Walters (The Rise, The Blank Faces, Juliette and the Licks), bassist Tony Baumeister (16, The Cutthroats 9), and drummer Larry Herweg (Pelican, San Angelus) -- released its debut album, The Bridge, in April, and is currently on a West Coast tour. It will be at the Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco) on Monday, July 16, with Silver Snakes and Name. 9 p.m., $10.
