When: Sun., March 7, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
In this workshop, we discuss the process of developing a unique improvisational voice through “concept-based” and “key center-based” practice, expanding existing language over specific tonalities and common harmonic progressions. Students examine a host of advanced techniques while combining creative approaches to practicing and implementing them, with the goal of unlocking new and individualized language. Specific attention will be paid to structuring dissonance using pentatonics, hexatonics (triad pairs), tone rows and intervallic playing, and other harmonic substitutions.
