From the “Cougars in Paradise” file comes novelist Doris Lessing’s ungainly amour fou tale of Roz (Robin Wright) and Lil (Naomi Watts), two Australian lifelong best friends, now middle-aged, who simultaneously decide to get it on with each others’ grown sons, a pair of hunky surfers named Ian (Xavier Samuel) and Tom (James Frecheville) – whatever the consequences. France-based director Anne Fontaine (My Worst Nightmare, Coco Before Chanel) imbues the moist seaside love story with an artificial-looking, unrealistic eroticism, filmed in the language of softcore porn, with the implied message: If men can have sex-fantasy movies, women can too. That’s setting the bar pretty low, and the screenplay by Christopher Hampton and Fontaine achieves its goal. Costarring Ben Mendelsohn, Sophie Low, and Jessica Tovey (111 min.).
