A Wintry Mix

When: Fri., Jan. 20, 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 21, 8 p.m. 2012

Let's pretend that this winter has been dark and stormy and unforgiving. At least, that's the mood into which Richmond's Davalos Dance Company delves during its new show, A Wintry Mix, at CounterPULSE (1310 Mission St., San Francisco) on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21. The company comprises three award-winning East Bay contemporary dance artists and teachers, CatherineMarieDavalos, Rogelio Lopez, and ShaunnaVella, who contribute six dances that use the season's bleakness (well, the bleakness of any normal winter, alas) as a metaphor for the dark emotions that eventually lead us to renewal and rebuilding. The show is part of CounterPULSE's Winter Special series, which promotes accessible, affordable performances by emerging artists. 8 p.m., $18-$20. 800-350-8850 or CounterPulse.org
