A Town Called Panic (Panique au village)

Rated NR 75 min. 2010

This is the third go-round for Belgian-bred filmmakers Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar’s insanely funny animated adventures of three goofy, stop-motion-animated, plastic toys – Cowboy (voice of Aubier), Indian (Bruce Ellison), and Horse (Patar) – getting into mischief beneath the surface of their ticky-tacky mountain village. Aubier and Patar created the tiny, herky-jerky characters as a school project, which became a TV series and eventually this feature-length absurd-o-mat of impossible piles of bricks, amphibious bat-like creatures, and disasters both natural and unnatural. It’s the perfect antidote to slick, overproduced, by-the-numbers animated spectacles. In French with English subtitles (75 min.).
