This is tragedy: A man unknowingly kills his dad, marries his mom, as king seeks revenge for his pop’s murder, discovers the truth — and digs his eyes out. It’s the stuff of Greek mythology, namely, Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex. Now toss that wad of woe into the Mojave Desert in 2014. In his final play, crafts updated double-identity characters who riff on themes of destruction in fiercely paced switchbacks from the Oedipus myth to the murder of a 21st century Las Vegas casino owner. Directed with assurance by Robert Estes and presented at City of Berkley Historic Landmark and community center Old Finnish Hall, polish and history abound. As do family secrets, fate, menace, mystery and conflict of mythological proportions.
