Memo to Freddy: How can we miss you if you won’t stay away? Seven years after his last sighting on the big screen, reincarnated child molester/serial killer Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley in his first stab at the role) returns to haunt the sleep of neighborhood “teenagers” (youngest cast age: 22). He’s not tall enough. And this weak remake won’t scare anyone, least of all someone who’s seen Wes Craven’s original or any of the numerous sequels and imitations of one of horror’s most enduring (alas) franchises. The boring screenplay by Wesley Strick and Erick Heisserer is directed boringly by Samuel Bayer. The boring cast includes Rooney Mara, Kayle Gallner, and Katie Cassidy. Bore-in-chief: producer Michael Bay. When will this nightmare end? (95 min.).
