Best Magazine Shop

Issues

Grab a cup of coffee on Piedmont Avenue and duck around the corner into the biggest little magazine shop in the East Bay. To browse Issues' shelves is to travel the globe via titles both mainstream and obscure, domestic and imported: Today you're playing it cool with Vogue and Die Zeit, but tomorrow you might discover a wondrous new world in the pages of Feline Wellness, Puppetry International, or Alpacas. On the off chance that Issues doesn't carry the title you're looking for, they can usually special-order it; they're also happy to hold that new copy of, say, F1 Racing to ensure you get your fix. More than just a magazine store, Issues is also a neighborhood go-to for gifts, culture, and conversation. The friendly proprietors, Noella Teele and Joe Colley, augment their panoply of periodicals with art exhibits, vintage books, and handmade cards and 'zines. Even the local dogs drop in to score the treats stashed behind the counter. Browsers are welcome, no one leaves without learning something new — and they let you bring your coffee.
