Israeli filmmaker Ido Haar documents the perils faced by illegal Palestinian laborers, following a band of Arabs who spend their days building the glittering Israeli city of Modi'in and their nights squatting in huts made from wooden crates and dumpster finds. These mostly apolitical men risk much to support their families back home, yet one philosophical worker refuses to rob the Jew who has given him a job. Without resorting to music, narration, or slick editing, this 2006 film heightens our sympathy for the photogenic young guys and underscores the inherent irony of their lives. In Arabic and Hebrew with subtitles. 78 min.
