When: Tue., Nov. 20, 8:30 p.m. 2012

There's a dance party at The Uptown (1928 Telegraph Ave, Oakland) on Tuesday, Nov. 20: The audience does the partying while performers in the annual 8x8x8 showcase dance on the stage, the floor, and possibly the ceiling. The show gets two-thirds of its name from the original format, an eight-by-eight-foot floor space at a smaller club, but it's become so popular that size no longer matters. In The Uptown's main room, Paufve Dance, Dandelion Dancetheater, Bandaloop's aerial innovator Amelia Rudolph, Christy Funsch (with Erin Mei-Ling Stuart), Peiling Kao, Rogelio Garcia Lopez, Nicole Klaymoon's Embodiment Project, and Nina Haft & Company can expand as far as they want, both spatially and creatively. The result is wildly unpredictable, consistently entertaining, and as well-crafted as a perfectly mixed cocktail. As for the third "8" in the name? It comes from the cover charge, which is just $8. Ages 21+ only. 8:30 p.m. 415-722-2457 or
