5th Annual 9/11 Film Festival

When: Sept. 9-10, 6:15 p.m. 2009

We hear fewer platitudes and homilies about 9-11 in mainstream media these days, but the conspiracy theories haven't abated -- and won't, any time soon. For an interesting, against-the-grain perspective on the falling of the twin towers, the anthrax attacks (and investigations thereof), and bio-weapons labs, check out the 5th annual 9/11 Film Festival, held Sept. 9-10 at Oakland's Grand Lake Theater (3200 Grand Ave.). Hosted by Bonnie Faulkner -- who is best known for her KPFA public affairs program, "Guns and Butter" -- this year's event features the US premiere of The New American Century, by Italian filmmaker Mazzucco. Eric Nadler's film The Anthrax War will link bio-weapons to vaccine manufacturers. Other screenings include Muad'Dib'sRipple Effect, Bermas' Fabled Enemies, Kill the Messenger by French filmmakers Verboud & Viallett, and the latest edition of Dylan Avery's Loose Change series, with a special appearance by the director. Other speakers include Richard Gage, David Ray Griffin, Peter Phillips & Swami Beyondananda, and Janette McKinlay. Events kick off at 6:15 p.m. Wed., Sept. 9, and 12 p.m. on Thurs., Sept. 10. $10 Proceeds benefit Northern California 9/11 Truth Alliance. CommunityCurrency.org/FilmFestival2009
