When: Sun., June 28, 12-5 p.m. 2009
Always overshadowed by the Gourmet Ghetto to the North and San Francisco across the Bay, West Berkeley is an up-and-coming foodie capital in its own right, home to some of the city's tastiest and most interesting ethnic fare. Try for yourself on Saturday, June 28 at the Berkeley International Food Festival, which features samples, live cooking demonstrations and food booths from the neighborhood's Asian, South American, Middle Eastern and Caribbean restaurants, as well as live entertainment from SoCal salsa act Jimmy Polanco, a Tahitian dance group, and bluegrass bands. The festival spans several blocks in either direction from the intersections of University and San Pablo Avenues, with free parking at the old BerkeleyAdultSchool lot. Noon -5 p.m., free.
