When: Tue., June 3, 8 p.m. 2008
After Audra McDonald's supremacy in show and song packs Zellerbach on June 1, Cal Performances' Berkeley Festival & Exposition and simultaneous Fringe Festival bring some of our finest regional and international early music artists to Berkeley for six non-stop days of exceptional music making. No one individual can possibly take it all in. But the collective rewards of the American Bach Soloists International Young Artists Competition for Baroque Violin; French ensemble Le PoémeHarmonique's melding of music and theater; Piffaro, The Renaissance Band & The Concord Ensemble recreating carnival time in Florence; the Philharmonia Chamber Players; and no less than Magnificat, Philharmonia Chorale, American Bach Soloists, ScholaCantorum San Francisco, the Perfect Fifth, and His MajestysSagbutts and Cornetts joining together for Striggio's sixty-part mass encourage dashing from concert to concert. At various venues from Tuesday June 3 through Sunday June 8.Details at CalPerformances.org and sfems.org/fringe2008.htm; some tickets from 510-642-9988.
