.Most Moderate Weather: For temperate weather, head east from the tunnel

Walnut Creek

This winter’s record-breaking rain washed out all of Northern California as far as praiseworthy weather, but when the jetstream does finally change and the sun returns to the East Bay in earnest, Walnut Creek is the place to tan. Nestled in a valley at the junction of the I-680 and Highway 24, the WC enjoys above-average amounts of sun and below-average amounts of rain and fog thanks to its strategic location behind a range of bayside mountains, which force the clouds higher and higher where the cooler air condenses the water vapor and forces them to give up their gray. By the time the heavy cumulonimbus beasts cross the Caldecott Tunnel, they are shadows of their former selves. While Berkeley and Oakland watch movies in the fog, the Dub-C hotties are poolside working on getting rid of those pesky bikini-bottom tan lines.
