The Loving Sounds of Static

Unlike, say, Thoreau (who fled to the woods to learn life’s meanings), the indie-pop outfit Mobius Band fled from the isolated forests of Shutesbury, Massachusetts to Brooklyn, NYC. There, the trio developed from naive musicians feeling their way through insipid instrumentals on three self-released EPs to creators of the more complex, layered symphonies of synth blips, gorgeous guitars, heavy drums, and lyrical brazenness that fill this debut full-length. Thus, The Loving Sounds of Static is a veritable band diary about growing up and transitioning from obscurity to (relative) fame, from trite machinations to elegant instrumentation. If understated yet candid numbers like “Detach” and “Close the Door” chronicle the band’s break from a previous, less confident time, then the rocking fury of the title track reveals the anxiousness of a more mature outfit, out of the woods and impatient to take on the world.
