Will “The Thrill” Viharo, the Parkway’s resident publicist and programmer, wants to help folks who crave food, booze, ’20s Prohibition decor, and of course B-movies. Every other Thursday night for the mere price of $6, Will dons his smoking jacket and holds court over the cavernous downstairs theater at Oakland’s Parkway, transforming it into Thrillville — a B-movie extravaganza. Armed with his lovely assistant Monica the Tiki Goddess and assorted props, games, prizes, and film trailers, Will kicks off the evening by leading the movie-obsessed audience through a mire of cornball ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s movie trivia. Questions or comments about kung fu, beach blankets, she-males, beatniks, bikers, ’50s nuclear paranoia, and rubber-suited monster men are all fair game. Next comes the film. It can range from the ’70s Hong Kong kiddie-film Inframan to the violent ’50s atomic noir Kiss Me Deadly. When possible, and because he cares, Will provides helpful commentary throughout — like which cast members were subsequently busted for drugs or found at the bottom of a lake.
