.Best Place to Find Local Fashions: A devout supporter of East Bay designers

Magnet

This clothing boutique in Berkeley’s emerging “Left Bank” is a much-needed new shopping destination, featuring mid-priced clothing for hip and practical women. In addition to stocking sought-after labels such as James Jeans and Paige Premium Denim (which can cost upward of $200), owner Camille Mason offers her space to little-known local designers, too, and at more affordable prices. There are form-fitting dresses by Oakland’s Mary Meyer, She-bible’s red jersey sundresses, soft, jersey-knit dresses from Gina Pericini, and constructed and deconstructed black tops from Tinc. True to Berkeley style, Magnet doesn’t mess with fussy or pretentious clothes, and the local fashionistas Mason carries emulate that same relaxed-but-stylish sentiment. It would have been easy enough for this boutique to carry the usual line of tried-and-true brands, so it makes her decision to support local designers all the more genuine.
