.Best Health Care for the Working Poor

La Clinica de la Raza

La Clinica de La Raza has been winning the hearts, minds, and health of the East Bay’s immigrants and people of color since 1971, when dental exams were conducted there on an old toilet. What started as a volunteer-staffed people’s clinic during the proud days of the Brown Power movement has blossomed into a multi-facility health network that will have offices in the new Fruitvale Transit Village. La Clinica offers services in multiple languages to 15,000 clients, 86 percent of whom live below poverty level. Cinco de Mayo marked 31 years of La Clinica’s health crusade — 31 years after people said it couldn’t be done.
