Usually, the bedroom is a perfect destination, especially when the color of the clouds outside match the Gray Lady herself. But in the event a couple wants to get vertical and take in the late morning sunshine in public, there’s no better place to park it than in the quaint garden at Beanery on College Avenue. While the William Safire fans are sitting outdoors talking — nay, pontificating — at the more popular corner cafe named after a certain European city down the street, a handful of Beanery couples are quietly tucked among leafy greens and the sweet sounds of songbirds in flight. The only disturbance that occurs inside this little Eden is the occasional sound of a lover’s quarrel, one nearly as old as love itself: Who gets to read the Magazine first?
