.Best Dog Walk

Claremont Hotel at Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve

Ask any politically correct East Bay dog “companion” which is the best place to walk a pooch and they’ll probably tell you it’s Point Isabel. But what if you don’t want to jump on the freeway and get caught in Costco traffic? What if you don’t care whether your dog socializes with others of the same species, don’t subscribe to Bark, don’t feel like getting political at Cesar Chavez Open Space, and don’t like lurking under BART tracks in the small, sunless dog park at Claremont Avenue and Hudson Street? Then head for the hills above the Claremont Hotel at Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve. The trailhead starts at the sharp bend in the road on Stonewall, off Claremont Avenue. Only hearty hounds and their companions need apply. If you’re looking to tire each other out sans leash, and not necessarily talk canine psychology or homemade free-range chicken with rice chow, then trot, run, and trudge up these steep trails. Afterwards treat your best friend to extravagantly expensive but delicious freshly baked dog biscuits at the nearby Bread Garden.
