“Recalibrate” is the key word for 2008, and all year long, as certain planets constellate in new patterns, personal and collective reality here on Earth rearranges itself to accommodate the new view. Most major transitions — even the ones we welcome — tend to be uncomfortable. Attitudes and approaches to daily life will require subtle and not so subtle shifts in perspective. Many of us are likely to feel discombobulated by the changes, even if we also experience a remarkable clarity of purpose. This week and the next several weeks offer a preview of what’s to come, but be aware, the old pattern isn’t quite over. Unlike a typical movie trailer, daily life plays out on a split screen — one side tells the story of what’s coming to an end, and the other shows highlights of things to come. Also keep in mind, recalibrating individual and collective perspectives takes time. So be gentle with yourself and others as you figure out what needs to be aligned and attuned.

The source of disruption is Pluto’s move into Capricorn. On January 25, Pluto leaves Sagittarius and enters Capricorn, where it will stay (except for a brief retrograde this year from June 14 to November 26) until 2023. When Pluto moves, so do we — on every level, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical. Because Pluto represents the process of death and rebirth, as it shifts Signs, it asks many, if not all of us, to let go of what no longer has meaning for us. Unfortunately, we don’t often agree with Pluto about what no longer serves, and that translates into a tendency to cling to what most needs to be released. Notice what you’re holding on to — an idea, a profession, a person, or a persona.

This new Plutonian cycle is certain to make even the coolest among us antsy and apprehensive about what lies ahead. And you will hear many dire predictions about what Pluto in Capricorn is all about. As you listen, try to keep in mind the future is not yet written. We create it moment by moment through our thoughts, words, and deeds. What’s more, we don’t need astrology to tell us just how precariously balanced our personal and planetary futures are. Unless you’ve been asleep in a cave for the last eight years, the issues of personal and global survival are top priorities for all the citizens of Planet Earth. And, except for the current American regime who still believes the people can be fooled all of the time, most of us know something’s got to give — and soon.

Expanded awareness is crucial to the recalibration process of 2008, so as you move through the coming days, make an effort to widen your perspective. And when possible, help others to do the same.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April 19

Avoid strained confrontations that could lead to a war of words — you don’t have to demonstrate your superiority. Just stay confident about what you want to accomplish and move forward with determination.

Taurus April 20-May 20

Clashes over finances could mask the real issue — your values versus the values of others. While I’m not suggesting you abandon your standards in order to make peace, it would be wise to consider the perspective of your “opponent.”

Gemini May 21-June 21

The tendency is to squander your energy on a variety of plans and projects, and while being productive is great, resist the urge to spread yourself too thin. Conserve your energy and you’ll make positive progress.

Cancer June 22-July 22

While holding back your feelings is becoming increasingly uncomfortable, holding forth might be overwhelming for you and whoever happens to be listening. So start saying what needs to be said, but try to maintain moderation.

Leo July 23-August 22

Avoid unreasonable demands by others on your time and energy. This isn’t about avoiding responsibility or breaking a promise. It is about honoring your needs first, so you have the stamina to handle the needs of others.

Virgo August 23-September 22

If you focus on creative solutions, you’ll be able to find a workable, positive solution for all concerned parties. While this may sound a little detached, a hotheaded solution won’t help you find the best resolution.

Libra September 23-October 22

Despite the feeling that you’re being pulled in two (or more) directions simultaneously, you’re able to maintain a deep sense of composure, inside and out. Hold on to this solid “ground” and let it guide your choices.

Scorpio October 23-November 21

Difficult words could put a strain on an already difficult situation, but it may not be possible to hold back your opinions. Speak your truth, but make every effort to listen to the truth of others with equal intensity.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21

Stay focused on making solid career choices, and you’ll be in a good position to make solid financial gain. Yes, there are obstacles, but none greater than your ability to dissipate your energy on distractions.

Capricorn December 22-January 19

Try not to let fractious interactions with friends or associates ruin your optimistic attitude. Of course you disagree on lots of issues — when haven’t you? But that doesn’t mean you can’t still be hopeful.

Aquarius January 20-February 18

If the ego feels challenged to defend itself, any conflict can be deemed necessary. But if you’re willing to disengage from the “personal” and instead look at the situation objectively, you’ll find a way to keep the peace.

Pisces February 19-March 20

Solid interactions with friends will dispel anxiety about “belonging,” so rather than brood about the situation, seek the solace of community. Not every contact will be “the one,” but you’re sure to eventually find the comfort you’re seeking.
