The workweek is over, and the Dickies pants and Ben Davis shirt are all mucked up and greasy. And there’s no way you’re going to bust out the Spray ‘n Wash and spend ninety minutes at the Laundromat, even if it does turn a profit. No problem. Head over to Halmar Work Clothes Center, the working stiffs’ clothing shop in Berkeley near the intersection at University and San Pablo, and get yourself a new outfit. Sturdy Dickies pants run $30; Ben Davis short-sleeves go for $28. Of course, you could wear the same getup while hanging out with your slacker friends in the Buddy Holly glasses drinking brews at the Albatross down the street. Insulated Dickies jackets go for a reasonable $40. Halmar’s might not be the cheapest place in town, but it offers courteous and competent service. Plenty of parking in the back lot, which adjoins Blockbuster and Everett & Jones Barbecue. Open until 6 p.m. on Fridays, closed Sundays and Mondays.
