Naz 8 Theater

Galleries may be free, but if you want to travel for next to nothing, try traveling to Fremont. Where else can you get such a great selection of Bollywood movies, or come to think of it, see them on the big screen at all? Shiraz Jivani built the Naz 8 and named it after his wife, a movie buff. Copying another famous Indian monument to love, it’s the Taj Mahal of cinema, with posters of Bollywood superstars such as the dreamy Shah Rukh Khan and the lovely Kareena Kapoor. The theater has eight screens, three thousand seats, and the all-important five thousand available parking spaces, and you’ll find samosas, lychee ice cream, chai, and many other exotic treats at its new chaat corner. The featured films are packed with music, dancing, often a scene in the Alps, and plenty of melodrama. And since Bollywood flicks run three to four hours, you should be prepared to spend the whole afternoon escaping into the stories of others. With movies from Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Taiwan, Korea, and the Philippines as well, the theater transports you to a host of faraway lands for just $8 a pop.
