.11:05 a.m. Wednesday: Best Dim Sum

Restaurant Peony

Chopsticks down, Restaurant Peony’s dim sum bests all of its Chinatown competitors, old and new. Which means that on weekends, dealing with the crowds and the frazzled waitstaff can make for a unsettling experience, hardly providing a “little bit of heart” (which is what dim sum means in Cantonese). The solution: weekday dim sum. You and hundreds of Chinese-American elders will be able to find a seat right away and begin immediately to snag turnip cakes, roast duck, seaweed salad, steamed dumplings, and the ungreasiest of fried dumplings from the traveling carts. The cart-drivers also have the time to answer questions on weekdays, and it’s not hard to hail a captain to special-order anything that doesn’t come right to you. As always, the selection is best if you get there earlier.
