More development news for Jack London Square: A month after we reported on plans to build a massive entertainment complex at the site of the old Barnes and Noble, Rosenblum Cellars has announced that it will be moving its East Bay Visitors Center from its current location in Alameda to the Oakland waterfront at Jack London Square. Rosenblum Cellars, which is produced by Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines and is known for its Zinfandels and Rhone varietals, plans to open up a new Oakland site as soon as the lease expires on its Alameda center in June.
The company hasn't released an exact address for the new site yet, but said it will be in an existing building on the waterfront near the Jack London Square ferry terminal. In addition to its traditional wine tastings, the Oakland center will offer Rosenblum club members and other visitors "a wealth of new food and entertainment options," the company said in an announcement. Rosenblum plans to open its doors in Jack London Square in July.
Brigid Harris, Diageo general manager, said in a statement:
Rosenblum is proud of and committed to its roots in the urban East Bay, Alameda and Oakland area. More than half of Rosenblum’s loyal wine club members live locally and visit regularly to sample and buy wines, so finding a new location in the East Bay was a top priority. We listen to our club members and visitors to our locations in the East Bay and Healdsburg. We know they love Rosenblum Cellars for great quality wines and for the warm atmosphere of our wine experience. We also know they enjoy food and wine pairings, as well as good food in general. For all of these reasons, we are excited about the new Rosenblum space and all the Oakland location will offer.
Last October, Rosenblum also opened a wine testing lounge and education center in Healdsburg, close to many of its regional growers and Zinfandel vineyards.
To get a taste of what Rosenblum might offer in Jack London, here's a sample of the current pricing at the company's Alameda location:
• Reserve tasting - $15.00 per person
• Lifestyle tasting - $10.00 per person (by request only)
• Combined tasting- $20.00 per person (by request only)
• Private tasting - $20.00 per person (advanced reservations are required)
The news of the move to Oakland comes after developers Ellis Partners LLC and DivcoWest unveiled plans for the Jack London Square entertainment complex that will transform a 34,000-square-foot indoor site at 98 Broadway and an adjacent 15,000-square-foot outdoor plaza. That development is slated to include "luxury" bowling lanes and a large outdoor beer garden.
