As promised, a new comic book store did indeed rise from the ashes of Comic Relief. According to Berkeleyside, Dark Carnival owner Jack Rems opened a new comic book store at 3090 Claremont Avenue last night. Rems had purchased the stock at Comic Relief and hired several people who worked there. The new store, called The Escapist, will hopefully resurrect the original mission of Comic Relief, which was partly to keep a wide selection of underground comics and graphic novels in stock, along with the traditional pamphlets. Dark Carnival specializes in science fiction and mysteries, which may also become part of the new store's inventory. Whatever the case, local bibliophiles and comic geeks are all a-tizzy.
