Clear your calendars now: the waterfront at Jack London Square will transform into party central on Friday, August 6, when the East Bay Express will host this year’s Best of the East Bay Party. Everyone’s invited to celebrate the release of our yearly Best of the Bay issue and to revel in everything home-grown and unique to our freaky, funky, and far-out side of the Bay. That means a lot of live music, art, dance, designer exhibitions and, of course, local food.
As for the live tunes, Amoeba Music will sponsor the Main Stage. It will include performances by the Mighty Underdogs, Everything Must Go, Finish Ticket, Zydeco Flames, The Memphis Murder Men, Belle Monroe and her Brewglass Boys, Kit + the Branded Men, Bang Data, Birds and Batteries, Stone Foxes, Cheetahs on the Moon and Fans of Jimmy Century. The Blues Pavilion, sponsored by the Bay Area Blues Society, will play host to East Bay greats Big Cat Tollfree, Zakiya Hooker Blues 4 U, the Russell City Memorial Blues Band and more.
If you’re of the parenting sort, feel free to bring the kids, who will have a blast at the Chabot Space and Science Center’s Kids’ Party Zone. Hands-on science projects and performances by kid bands from sponsor organizations Bandworks and the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp are sure to keep the little ankle-biters mesmerized long enough for you to grab an adult beverage at the bar, where all proceeds will be donated to the OneCalifornia Foundation.
The free, all-ages Best of the East Bay Party will rage from 5 until 11 p.m., when a dance battle will top off the night in style.
