The City of Oakland has agreed to pay police officers for the time it takes to put on and take off their uniforms each day, the Trib and Chron report. The city council also has agreed to pay police officers $1.75 million for their legal fees stemming from a lawsuit they filed over the issue. In addition, the city has agreed to give about 500 police officers about 130 hours of vacation each to make up for not paying for their dressing time in the past. About 60 retired officers will be paid $3,500 each for the same reason. The council decided to agree to the generous settlement rather than risk losing even more in a trial.
