The Santa Clara City Council and the San Francisco 49ers both moved forward on a ballot measure for the June 8 election for a new 49ers stadium, according to the San Jose Mercury News. That means the team and its fans should know soon whether it’s moving to the South Bay. There also has been talk of the Oakland Raiders sharing the stadium, too, so that it will pencil out better financially. Although the Raiders recently signed a lease extension at the Oakland Coliseum, it contains a buyout clause that would allow the team to join the Niners in Santa Clara.
The Santa Clara council also approved an environmental impact report on the new stadium proposal, according to the Merc. In addition, the owner’s of Great America Amusement Park filed suit against the city over the stadium plan, but that suit is not expected to derail the proposal.
