Captain Ed Poulson, an internal affairs commander who is being investigated by the FBI in connection with the death of an East Oakland man nearly a decade ago, has returned to duty in an administrative role. According to the Trib and the Chron, new Police Chief Anthony Batts ordered Poulson, who had been receiving his full salary while on leave, to come back to work.

Jim Chanin and John Burris, attorneys for the family of Jerry Amaro, who contend that he died in 2000 because of excessive police force, said they don't object to Poulson's return - as long as he's not put back in the internal affairs unit. Ex-Police Chief Wayne Tucker had come under fire for promoting Poulson to run internal affairs after knowing that Poulson had been involved in a cover-up of Amaro's death.
