Oakland-based Meals for Change is a charitable "social enterprise kitchen" whose ready-to-eat vegan and vegetarian casseroles, pies, pilafs, and other dishes are now available in the refrigerated sections of Berkeley Natural Grocery, El Cerrito Natural Grocery, Planet Organics in Piedmont, and the Village Market in Oakland.

Proceeds from these products and from Meals for Change catering gigs benefit MFC's parent organization, Oakland-based Bay Area Community Services, which operates a Meals on Wheels program. Since 1953, BACS has facilitated culinary training for the disadvantaged and has provided independent-living services to seniors and the mentally ill.

The Meals for Change Advisory Council comprises such culinary-sustainability celebrities as Fritjof Capra, Raj Patel, and Michael Pollan.
