It's becoming increasingly clear that US Senator Dianne Feinstein no longer represents the state's overwhelming Democratic majority. On Sunday, for instance, Feinstein agreed with leading Republican senators and called on President Obama to significantly widen the war in Afghanistan. It was just the latest example of Feinstein's moderate to conservative leanings, from her full-throated support of the Iraq War to her steadfast defense of Bush Administration's warrantless wiretap program.
Today, Salon's Glenn Greenwald provides an excellent summary of Feinstein's increasingly out-of-step positions. Greenwald's post makes it clear that it's time for a liberal California Democrat, someone more in tune with the state's majority, to take her on.
