.Schwarzenegger Changes Mind on Park Closures

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has pulled an about face on the state’s plan to close about 100 California parks. According to the San Jose Mercury News, the governor doesn’t know how many state parks will be closed, but it will be far fewer than 100, and his office has decided to not release a list of park closures anytime soon. The governor is searching for other ways to slash $14.2 million from the state parks budget – other than closing parks. Last week, the Merc reported that the planned park closures could end up costing the state millions of dollars because of possible lawsuits from private vendors who have contracts to operate businesses inside the parks.
