Food banks in the East Bay are reporting a cascade of requests for help, according to Robert Jordan of the Contra Costa Times. Alameda County Community Food Bank workers told Jordan that they received nearly 6,000 calls in July and August, a record for the Food Bank. The executive director of The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano reported a 20 to 30 percent increase in the number of people seeking food.
