In an about-face, Attorney General Jerry Brown has returned $52,500 in campaign donations that he received from the family and businesses of people his office is investigating, including powerhouse lobbyist Darius Anderson, according to the Sacramento Bee. A Brown spokesman said last month that the former Oakland mayor had no intention of returning the funds after the Bee originally broke the story. But then Brown changed his mind and returned the money last week. His campaign treasurer told the paper that Brown didn't want the contributions to "distract from the work of the attorney general's office." Yeah right. It had nothing to do with his run for governor.
