The statewide average for gasoline is now more than $3 per gallon, according to the Chron, citing figures from AAA. In Oakland, it reached $3.01 on Monday, the same as the statewide average. It was $3.09 in San Francisco and $3.02 in San Jose. Gas prices have risen nearly 20 percent in the past month thanks to rising oil prices. Gasoline averaged just $2.52 in mid May. But even with the sudden, steep increase, it’s still way below its peak of $4.61 one year ago.
