Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi officially announced his candidacy for Congress, making the race to replace Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher wide open. Before Garamendi's announcement, state Senator Mark DeSaulnier had been the front-runner. But with Garamendi's name recognition and considerable fund-raising abilities, it may be his race to lose -- even with Tauscher's endorsement of DeSaulnier. Garamendi had been planning to run for governor, but changed his mind after Tauscher accepted a top job in President Obama's administration.
