Ersie Joyner III, a lieutenant with 17 years under his belt, will leave the homicide division and run patrol for a while; he is also reported to get his captain’s bars soon. Joyner ran homicide during the Chauncey Bailey investigation, which has come under an awfully dark cloud in the wake of revelations that the primary investigator, Sergeant Derwin Longmire, had a long relationship with Your Black Muslim Bakery, interfered with other criminal investigations into members of the Yusuf Bey family, and may have ignored key evidence in the murder. But the Trib takes pains to point out that this transfer is merely routine.
