.Tree Sitters Sentenced

As final epilogue to the Memorial Grove tree-sitting saga, nine people were sentenced yesterday for either refusing to come down from the trees or providing material support for others. The penalty: 50 hours of community service. According to the Trib, UC lawyer Michael Goldstein said the sentences were a vindication of the rule of law and property rights. Well, kind of. If you sit in a tree for close to two years, apparently, you’ll eventually have to spend fifty hours picking up trash near the highway. That’s not exactly moral victory for UC.
