UC Berkeley Loses $5 Million

The state of California, which is still facing a terrible budget problem, has unexpectedly cut $5 million from UC Berkeley's annual budget. Normally, this sort of the thing happens in the middle of the fiscal year, but the Daily Cal reports that the financial situation has become so dire that bean-counters are revising the budget on a regular basis.
