Contra Costa Divulges Employee Salaries

According to the Contra Costa Times, the county government of Contra Costa has posted on its web site the positions and salaries of all 8,500 people in its employ. The names have been redacted, mollifying union members who would have otherwise regarded the move as a violation of their privacy. Some employees grumbled that since contract negotiations are coming up, this may be a ploy by the county to stake out a better bargaining position. But since the state Supreme Court ruled that public employees' salaries must be made available to the public on request, good on the county for doing more than just what the letter of the ruling requires.
