Sunday's Matier and Ross had a quick item floating the possibility that Robert Bobb will angle for his old job as Oakland city administrator, or maybe run for mayor. Their proof? Um, nothing. Well, they asked Bobb whether he'd run for office, and the always coy fellow said he never rules anything out. So sure, we guess that's good enough for an item on a slow day. But more interesting was Bobb's promise to fire some folks as he reviews the performance of each city department. "It's pretty clear to me that at the end of the day there will be people going home," Bobb told the Chron columnists.
