An email just received from OPD Public Information Officer Roland Holmgren reads: "Today the Oakland Police Department, assisted by 16 local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, converged in Oakland and the northern East Bay area to execute a slew of early morning raids.
The raids are the culmination of an extensive investigation into the violent notorious West Oakland 'Acorn' street gang. The investigation has been ongoing for the past three months and has already netted a total of 31 firearms, the capture of 3 murder suspects, numerous robbery and assault suspects (to include Milano's & Red Boy Pizza robberies), as well as several narcotics seizures." The convergence's secret code name was "Operation Nutcracker."—Anneli Rufus
