A new era dawned in California yesterday, as mayors around the Bay Area officiated at the first legal same-sex marriages in the state's history. Down at Oakland's City Hall, Mayor Ron Dellums officiated at the wedding of no fewer than eighteen couples, including city marketing manager Samee Roberts and Oakland spokeswoman Karen Boyd. (Which has gotta be the first same-sex flack wedding in the history of the planet! That deserves a blue ribbon of its own.) "This is an incredible day," Dellums declared, according to the Oakland Tribune. "Today, the law is on our side."
