Faced with an end to school-subsidized meals, dwindling donations to food banks, rising demand for said banks, and soaring food prices, charity workers around the East Bay worry that children raised in poverty may go hungrier than they have in years. "People always think that winter and Thanksgiving is the toughest time of year, but it's not - it's the summer," social worker Ross Fraser told the Contra Costa Times.
