Ron Dellums Waves Magic Wand, Jobs Start Marching in Oakland

Oakland mayor Ron Dellums convened a meeting of the Oakland Partnership, a public-private venture aimed at bringing ten thousand new jobs to the city over the course of five years. Of course, we've seen giddy projects like this before, and they never work. And Dellums's project hits exactly the points other efforts at turning around the city have made: serious looking people issue a report that recommends we do something about crime. But this time, the good folks at the Contra Costa Times are just as skeptical, writing up a story that notes how business and government leaders spent last Friday congratulating themselves for all the important work they've done. Hey CoCo Times: quit hornin' on the attitudinizin'. That's our gig.
