Must-read piece in the Contra Costa Times, which alleges that UC Berkeley administrators broke numerous regulations in order to smear Police Chief Victoria Harrison with cash. They let Harrison retire and take a lump sum of $2.1 million, and then they hired her back, with a higher salary. Plus, they let her roll over 61 weeks of accumulated sick leave, in violation of rules that limit such rollovers to two weeks. These revelations come at a time when the UC system is trying to put the disgraceful compensation scandal behind them. Read the whole thing; it's real gumshoe stuff.
