.Shameless Self Promotion

Back in August, the genius marketing team here at the Express launched “Urban Expressions,” a volunteer public art project aimed at beautifying our newsstands and supporting local artists. Artists submitted concepts for the newsracks, and ten were chosen to paint their designs – using eco-friendly spray paints — at an event in our parking lot earlier this month. The artful newsstands hit the streets this week at various locations, including near the Pro Arts Gallery at 2nd and Clay streets, Art Murmur territory at 23rd Street and Telegraph Ave, Dick Blick Art Materials across from CCA, and the Grand Lake Theater. In the meantime, check out local filmmaker Dan Gitlin’s YouTube video documenting the process, featuring music by local acts Deer and Cloud Archive.
