A group of eleven UC Berkeley journalism students recently completed a web-based project on religion called “God Sex and Family.” Visitors to the web site can explore such topics as polygamy among African-American Muslims, faith in Second Life, and an interactive map with stories from places with the fewest gay households (rural Nebraska), highest divorce rate (Little Rock, Arkansas), and the most new HIV cases (Washington, DC). The project is part of the News21 Initiative, a journalism experiment sponsored by the Carnegie and Knight Foundations in which students from four universities explore tough topics in innovative ways.
